5 myths about the dangers of cosmetics

5 myths about the dangers of cosmeticsThe purpose of cosmetics is to make our skin beautiful. However, there is a theory that some cosmetic products do more harm than good. What really underlies the 5 most common myths about the dangers of cosmetics?

If bacteria enter in cosmetics, for example, comfortably sitting on someone's finger, it can lead to allergies. Bacteria can cause infections of the skin.

Myth # 1. Some lipsticks contain unacceptable levels of lead

Facts: the organization tests the quality of the cosmetic products (Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrance Association, CTFA), calls this a groundless myth. The amount of lead, which can enter the human body with cosmetics, much less that daily gets it together with food, water and air.

Myth # 2. Deodorants-antiperspirants cause breast cancer because they contain carcinogenic substances and lead to accumulation of toxins in the lymph nodes of the chest

The facts: the American cancer society (American Cancer Society) and the national cancer Institute (National Cancer Institute) denied these rumors. Lymph nodes are freed from toxins through the kidneys and liver, but not through the sweat glands. It is scientifically confirmed that deodorants can only cause allergic reactions, but not cancer.

Myth # 3. Some surfactants destroy skin

The facts: research has proven that regular skin cleansing products containing sodium lauryl sulfate, increases its sensitivity. Component damages the protective barrier and accumulates in the cells of the skin. Prolonged use of detergents with surfactants can lead to the development of skin dryness, flaking, hair loss, the appearance of comedones, to provoke dermatitis.

And although experts acknowledge them safe in detergents, which are washed with water (shampoos, cleansing gels, foams etc), however it is not recommended to people suffering from acne, dermatitis, dry skin or hair loss.

Synopsis: the Best-known surfactant is sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium Laureth sulfate (Sodium Lauryl Sul and Sodium Laureth Sulfate) may be present in detergents - shampoo, liquid soap, shower gels. And some cosmetic emulsions and even toothpastes. It is used because it is cheap and provides an effective foaming and cleansing.

Myth # 4. Preservatives in cosmetics are harmful for skin

Fact: preservatives are necessary because they protect cosmetics from microorganisms. From the point of view of the latter, the jar of cream is an ideal place of stay. It has everything that is needed for their growth and prosperity: water, nutrients (fats, proteins and carbohydrates), oxygen for the aerobic (open boxes) and the absence of oxygen for anaerobes (in closed containers).

If bacteria can still get into the cream, for example, comfortably sitting on someone's finger, it can lead to allergies. Bacteria can cause infections of the skin and especially the eyes.

Myth # 5. Dyes and fragrances synthetic harmful to the body.

Facts: both synthetic and natural aroma chemicals can cause allergic reactions. Among the dyes unsafe components based on coal tar (these are part of the black hair dye). Although scientists have repeatedly expressed concerns that they may cause problems, replacement of these dyes has not been found yet.
