Since "Scream" is the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction, the Museum will be strengthened security measures. Increased security measures are also related to the fact that the artist's works in recent years often become victims of thieves.

The scream, Munch was completed in 1895, is one of the most iconic works of art from the period of modernism. The painting depicts a figure of a man, clutching his head in his hands, his face disfigured horror, and his mouth wide open in a desperate cry. A man stands on a bridge in background blood-red sunset, behind him two men walking calmly away people. On the frame of the picture is a author's note explaining her story: "My friends walked on, I was left behind, trembling with anxiety, I felt the great Scream of Nature." According to critics, the picture expresses the sense of existential fear and anxiety, pursuing of modern human civilization.

Of the four created by Munch between 1893 and 1910 version of "Scream" only one belongs to a private collector. It is now exhibited in new York. The other three paintings are kept in Norwegian museums.

Edvard Munch's painting "the Scream" will be exhibited at the Museum of modern art in new York until April 29, 2013.

Recall that in may this year, in this painting went under the hammer at auction house Sotheby's for a record 119, 9 million dollars. The name of the current owner of the "Scream" is still not disclosed. However, experts believe that it may be a new York financier and well-known collector Leon black. The previous owner of the painting was a Norwegian millionaire Petter Olsen. He inherited the painting from his father - a wealthy shipowner Thomas Olsen, who was a friend and neighbor of Edward Munch.

Since the 1920's Olsen is a senior patron of the artist by buying his paintings. After coming to power in Germany by the Nazis, who considered Munch works of "degenerate" Olsen organized export of 74 works by the artist from Germany and thereby saved them from possible destruction.
