Fasting days prolong life

Fasting days prolong lifeAmerican scientists from the National Institute on aging (National Institute for Aging, Baltimore, under the direction of Professor Mark Mattson (Mark Mattson) presented at the American Association for the advancement of science (American Association for the Advancement of Science in Vancouver the results of a new study, suggesting that fasting can help not only to get rid of excess weight and boost mental ability and to increase life expectancy.

The researchers fed the experimental animal food, containing the minimum number of calories needed to sustain life. Animals subjected to a strict diet, lived in 2 times longer than animals receiving a normal amount of food. Scientists have found that mice who were fed every other day, were more sensitive to insulin and needed the smaller number.

The scientists also found that in experimental mice improved the work of the synapses in the brain intercellular connections, contributing to the generation of new cells, making them more resilient to stress. The researchers concluded that the periodic restriction of calories consumed helps to intensify the response to stress.

After the successful results of this experiment, this diet has been proven in humans. In the study, researchers found that it protects the heart, circulatory system and brain from age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.

Also previous studies have shown that fasting for a few days can help you cope with cancer and to improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Scientists have found that the full limit in food for several days helps destroy cancer cells, especially when combined fasting and traditional chemotherapy.
