Scientists asked volunteers to put his left hand under the table and indicate the estimated location of nails and knuckles using pointers. Using these results, scientists have made a representation about a person's perception of the length of the fingers and the width of the hand.
On average, all participants exaggerated the width of the arms by two-thirds, and the length of the fingers downplayed by one third.
According to study leader Matthew Longo, people tend to exaggerate the width and to minimize the length of all parts of his body.
This is especially true for women because they are more concerned about their appearance. "Some look in the mirror and see that they are not thick, but it doesn't help them get rid of the distorted view of himself and believe in its elegance," says Longo.
