The robot that adapts to the external environment

Most robots are made in the same form factor regardless of how they move, then there is no difference if they are on foot, crawling on his belly, climb the mountain or go on a level surface. However, this does not apply to robot called iMobot, because it is able to change its shape depending on the surrounding environment.


Researchers from the technical laboratory of the University of California, Harry Chang and Davis alum Graham Ryland, managed to build a mechanism that can move depending on the changing circumstances.




Each iMobot has a pair of connections in the center and rotating platforms on the sides that can be used as wheels for movement or to maintain the video camera when the robot is standing.
