Americans have created artificial skin

Americans have created artificial skinSynthetic analogue of human skin from plastic and rubber feels almost like real skin.

The existence of the electronic prosthesis is no longer news, but connecting them to the human nervous system and the development of fine motor skills still remain a problem. Scientists from Berkeley and Stanford is clearly not suffer from hereditary laziness. They invented the "skin", which is almost identical to the human.

The new material can be used for prostheses and to create robots that will be able to handle fragile items. In Berkeley, the developers have applied germanio-silicon nanowires, and Stanford scientists electrodes in pyramidal structures, which were connected through a thin rubber film (the thickness of the resulting skin - less than a millimetre).

The resulting material can recognize the slightest pressure. Such sensitivity will allow more precise control of an artificial limb and make possible actions that were previously unavailable due to a lack of precise control.

The study was funded by the advanced research projects Agency (DARPA), Department of scientific research of the U.S. Navy. This means that the new technology will first be applied in the military field.
