Guide to the attractions of Kharkov

Guide to the attractions of KharkovIn the old days knew where to build cities. This place was given the name "Place of power". Apparently, it is in this place and built in the beginning of our era the city of Sharukan inhabitants of the Great Khorezm. And, despite the fact that Genghis Khan destroyed the city, and later at his place Cossacks founded the village. And recently, archaeologists have found traces of ancient settlement. So, perhaps, Kharkiv over a thousand years! This is evidenced by the catacombs in the depth of the earth beneath the city, whose age is now approaching two thousand years.

In Soviet times, Kharkiv was the third largest industrial, transport and scientific center of the USSR. Today, these definitions were added "student" and "trading". To verify this, we offer you to visit the most interesting sights of Kharkov.

Your trip is advised to start with a forested area, which is North-West of the city. In the largest Park of Ukraine you can visit the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, the memorial to the victims of the totalitarian regime, and, passing huge beds of flowers, marble alley towards the Eternal Fire, to get to the Memorial to the fallen in the great Patriotic war.

In Gorky Park, just behind the beautiful arch and monument to Maxim Gorky begins the territory of childhood. Long wide Boulevard lined with shops and stalls selling drinks and sweets - nostalgia! - you get into the embodiment of all childhood dreams (of course, Disneyland, we do not consider): you will find lots of attractions, ranging from the classic "Ferris wheel", to... the cable car! By the way, this road connects the Gorky Park and the Botanical garden (one of two in Kharkiv, one that more), which is the cleanest source of water in the city.

And isn't it time for us to plunge into the city? To know the soul of the city, it is best first to visit... at least the largest in Europe and third biggest in the world - Liberty square!

Here at Freedom square, it seems that you begin to feel what makes Kharkiv Kharkiv - the magic that words cannot Express. Maybe it's the combination of opposing forces? On the one hand - Kharkov amazes with the space of the streets and avenues; affects a huge amount of Freedom square, the Lenin statue on a high pedestal, next to the majestic derzhprom building, built in the style of "constructivism"... At the same time, around - the pleasant, smiling faces of passers-by, many of them students, some special, "Kharkiv" alley, an indescribable feeling of capital significance and intelligence...

And you know, where so many young boys and girls on the streets? Just in Kharkiv - you won't believe! - more than 45 education institutions. They were built during the Soviet Union to prepare for future career workers engineering giants and research institutes.

After Liberty square we will visit Kharkiv zoo. Show there really is something: pythons, elephants and alligators are not the only animals for which comes here almost 400 thousand people per year.

To the zoo adjacent to the City Shevchenko garden, through which you can see the statue of the great Ukrainian poet. Will turn to the right and go up the hill, along the Sumy street to see... alien spaceship? No, it Kharkiv national academic theater of Opera and ballet named N. Century Lysenko, abbreviated "JACOB". Incidentally, the oldest theatre of Ukraine, in which Chaliapin sang and Sobinov, Nezhdanova and Battistini. By the way, within not less futuristic design than the outside. If you get the chance, be sure to visit!

Across the street is another attraction of the city - fountain "Mirror stream". Its construction in 1947, dedicated to the victory of Soviet people in the great Patriotic War. We were met by an unusual building, or chapel, or a tower with spire. Come closer and see that the water from the pool at the foot of the fountain pours a solid band, so that it got such a name. In the evening, the backlight changes color of the water every few seconds, so it seems that the fountain plays all the colors of the rainbow.

If you're tired, you can relax in the small, but very picturesque Victory square behind the fountain. There is a lot of interest.

After a rest, we will go on Sumskaya street, which will lead us to Constitution square. Along its perimeter are building Council, the store "Children's world", and a house with a spire, the silhouette of which was one of the calling cards of the city. On the square there is a monument called the "Three have the fridge", and also, Soviet and British tanks, the favorites of children. Incidentally, the name in honor of the Constitution of the fifth title of this square. So reflected the historical twists and turns in the biography of our cities!

The assumption Cathedral, the highest in the diocese of Kharkiv, stands on a hill, and connects this place with the energy of the air. Near the Eternal fire, respectively, passing the element of fire. River flowing at the foot of the hill - the Lopan river brings its waters the power of water. And finally, a monument in the shape of a cube over the eternal flame and the hill itself symbolize the energy of the earth.

This place is surrounded by three churches: the Cathedral of the Dormition, Svyato-Pokrovsky monastery and the Cathedral of the Annunciation. Each building has its own story.

Pokrovsky monastery is a functioning monastery in the center of Kharkov. Its main Cathedral - the Cathedral of the Intercession of the blessed virgin Mary, is a monument of architecture of the second half of the seventeenth century. One look at him, to the soul stirred a feeling of something familiar. Light, soaring up form domes, side by side with a squat bell tower that resembles a fortress tower, together creating a unique architectural ensemble. Now the Cathedral parish Orthodox Church, despite the fact that is located on the territory of the monastery.

Finally, the Annunciation Cathedral, or the Cathedral of the Annunciation. You can hardly find another unusual Orthodox Church, except, perhaps, St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The discrete form, color, stripe in the horizontal plane, in combination with a squat Byzantine domes, attached to the Cathedral similarity with modern buildings in the style of "hi-tech".

Can walk down the street Darwin - it will take you in different ages and countries, thanks to its buildings, as if coming down here from historical novels. The city has many military vehicles, turned into monuments. If you, holding your hand, visasivaet son or daughter, they like to stare at the steam locomotives and tanks, guns and armored personnel carriers, and even about ten aircraft on the areas and sites near the Universities you will find!

Especially famous Kharkiv humorous monuments. Their mass: the monuments of fairy tale characters, Shrek and donkey, the Aibolit and Ilya Muromets), animals (chimpanzees, Buffalo, deer, frog and even chicken eggs! ), technical units (the internal combustion engine, sewing machine, gas valve) and literary characters of Ilf and Petrov (Ostap Bender, Kise Vorobyaninov and others). There's absolutely fantastic monuments - for example, flying lovers, victims of anorexia or a line of cops" (by the way, this monument was stolen and later recovered in reduced form).

And when you are going to leave the warm Kharkiv, the adventure is not yet over! Try to visit station square, when light illumination lights. This is an unforgettable sight! If you find yourself in the square during the day, then you will not be disappointed by the scale and beauty of what he saw.
