The history of "youth Day" began on 7 February 1958 in the Soviet Union, which was part of the Ukrainian Soviet socialist Republic (SSR), when by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On establishing the Day of the Soviet youth" was established the "Day of the Soviet youth" which was celebrated on the last Sunday of June.
June 22, 1994, shortly after the collapse of the USSR and Ukraine gained independence, the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk "in support of the initiative youth associations and organizations of Ukraine in the Republic's capital city-hero of Kiev, signed a Decree "On the Day of youth", which was supposed to celebrate its Republic to Ukraine every year on the last Sunday of June.
Today in Ukraine there are more than 125 national and more than 4,000 local youth and children's organizations.
