Today, 24 may, the European day of parks, established by the Europarc Federation, an organization that integrates protected areas into thirty six European countries.
The date for the celebration was chosen due to the fact that on 24 may 1909 in Europe have created the first National parks were nine National parks, based in Sweden. Since protected areas are an invaluable part of the natural and cultural heritage of Europe.
This environmental festival was founded with the aim of lifting the profile of reserves in Europe, and also in order to create public support for their work. Currently, the European day of parks symbolizes international solidarity in protecting natural areas.
