Will you be able to provide first aid?

Will you be able to provide first aid? Each of us may be in a situation where someone close will need to provide first aid. It is not necessary to be in the midst of a natural disaster. Simply walk down the street, because at this time close to someone you can fall, clutching his heart. It is important to know that an ambulance is not enough, because if a person's heart stopped, then he can only live about five minutes. And for the first time will not fly even in a helicopter...

Knowing simple methods of first aid, you can maintain the life of the victim until the arrival of the doctors and then never blame yourself for a fatal omission. About where you can learn first aid, as well as its basic principles, we told the teacher courses first aid rescue service of Kyiv Burr Oleg.

- What does the rescue service of Kyiv and how did it originate?
To create a rescue service in our country, and not only we pushed a major earthquake that happened in Armenia in 1988. As such rescue units on the territory of the Soviet Union at that time was not yet. The main participants of the rescue effort, then became hikers, cavers, climbers, handlers - those people who have already had to assist in the mountains in a limited life, when there is not enough food and there are no conditions for an overnight stay. Returning then to his homeland, these people initiated the creation of public organizations that specialize in search and rescue. The same was the beginning of us.

Now we are mainly engaged in elimination of chemical accidents and altitude operations.

- What do you think, what percentage of people in Ukraine are able to provide first aid?

- In Ukraine, in particular in our region, only one in a hundred may try to do something.

- Can the ordinary citizen to be in a situation where someone close will require first aid?

It may. We live in the city, and a large number of people implies a higher probability of being a witness of an emergency. And it's not necessarily fire, flood or accident. Maybe simply a person became ill in the office or in transport. This is also an emergency situation. Or I go around the city and see a man lying in the front yard. The brain is helpful to me says that he's drunk, but it may not be so. It happens and can happen before your eyes. Therefore, to assist with the use of improvised and approved drugs, as well as possess the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation should everyone.

By the way, I would like to correct you, we are not talking about health care, so how have certified professionals. We teach emergency, pre-hospital, comedycentral aid or as they say in the West, "first aid".

- In what situations by means of first aid can save a human life?
- To save human life can device for artificial ventilation of the lungs, defibrillator, infusion, injections of adrenaline and specialized medicine by three or four medical workers. The entire complex is a standard intensive care team, which is worth a lot of money. We're talking about how to avoid or how to recover breath, palpitations, or to stop the bleeding in the first stage, so you don't have to do expensive procedures.

But what can help the common man? For example, if someone is near had a heart attack, the person falls unconscious, and his heart stops. It is clear that the first thing to do is to call an ambulance. But at the same time, it is the heart need to pump artificially, making indirect massage. Otherwise, the arrival of an ambulance will witness his death. Because in this situation to bring the man back to life can only be for five minutes, and five minutes no ambulance will not reach. If someone among others will know the techniques of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, he will be able to maintain the life of the victim until the arrival of medical. So they will go and forty minutes - all while the victim will be doing chest compressions, he will live.

Either we see a person with a bleeding. If we manage it properly DAB, to impose harness or at least to apply direct pressure to the wound, the doctors will be much more likely to help him.

And to help, don't need anything except knowledge.

You have courses emergency. What people often come to you to learn?

Most often people come to us that have been in similar situations, those who have been humiliated by inaction. For example, a girl who says that her grandmother was dying from a stroke, and she called the ambulance and stood, not knowing what to do. Comes second and says, "my friend died in a car accident, while I was there and didn't know what to do." Comes the third and says, "I have this situation was also, now I want to be able to help." And the fourth said: "I'm a tourist, and I know that this situation can be".

In addition, those who study here, you understand that the knowledge gained will form the basis for their own safety and the safety of their loved ones.

But how can a person help themselves, being in a crisis situation?
- If a person has information that could save his life, he can just bring it to witnesses of the accident, he can help himself.

And in any case do not think that those people who render first aid, should be large and physically developed. Yes, carrying out cardio-pulmonary resuscitation requires serious physical effort, the transportation of the victim is also quite difficult. But if you even fragile girl and have the right information, you can arrange for witnesses to the incident. That is, the most important thing is information. We, unfortunately, very few who possesses it. Many of us want to help, but few know how.

- Training in first aid you will only be given 16 hours. As you can during this short time, not just to teach people everything you need, but make it able to apply this in practice? Because often people are afraid to take responsibility for someone else's life, they are stopped by the question: "what if I do something wrong? "

- Every person has the fear of making mistakes or fear of legal liability for improper medical care. But, let's say, legal liability for failure to render first aid only exists for specialized workers: for physicians, the staff of the Ministry and the interior Ministry. If you are an ordinary citizen, or even a doctor who passes by and sees emergency situation, you can not stop. In our legislation in this respect there is no clearly defined requirements.

As for training, we do not give the specialized medical knowledge, but we learn to think in an emergency. It is very difficult. If you walk down the street, planning a meeting or personal life, and suddenly I hear the squeal of brakes and the impact the accident has occurred, your brain immediately knocks a lot of questions: "What to do? ", "Can I help? ", "Is it safe? ", "Where to go? ". And regardless of how you are smart and educated, you can't move because your brain is overloaded and cannot find the answers to all these questions.

For any emergency quickly find answers at the courses we give the algorithm first aid. It is very important that all went step by step. The first thing I should do after witnessing the incident, to stop any movement of the body (to switch to the solution of problems and to ensure your safety and to think, how can I help and how to call an ambulance. In addition, be sure to think about your own safety, because it is a priority: the two victims is always greater than one. Then we come to the victim, turn to him, ask permission first aid.

We teach techniques probing pulse and checking for breathing, then the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

It is also important to observe hygiene (again for the sake of their own safety), for example, to help you always have gloves on, and if they do not need a scarf or a plastic bag.

16 hours of constant repetition, one comes from us already with knowledge of the algorithm. We do not give medical knowledge, but teach the Foundation of the technique of providing pre-hospital (emergency) care.

- Where in Kiev and in Ukraine it is possible to learn first aid? What is the difference between these courses?
Each centre has its own specialization. We teach people without medical education. We explain in simple words, do not use specialized medicines, but learn first aid with the use of improvised dressing material or products that are part of the approved by the Ministry of health kits.

Scientific-practical center of emergency medical aid and catastrophe medicine teaches specialized workers (doctors, police and emergency workers) are already using drugs. Because not all doctors specialize in emergency conditions and are able to help, but, like any other person, the doctor can be a witness to the incident. But if he will not know what to do, to survive will be twice.

There Kyiv state institution "Training center "Clinical hospital №1". It is included in the health care system of the so-called State administration. This center teaches first aid everyone as doctors and people without medical education. There are employees of private clinics, the security of the country's top officials, and employees of hotels and restaurants.

There is still training centre of the red cross. It works the same way as we do, and isn't meant for physicians.

In the rest of Ukraine by training and first aid are regional centers of the red cross, as well as regional centres of disaster medicine and the Society of Samaritans Ukraine.

- Do you offer such courses private campaign?
Abroad have experience private training centers that teach first aid. Because this should be handled not by the state, but those who have received permission from him.

For example, there is the European Council on resuscitation. It is a public organization, which promotes standards for the provision of first aid in Europe. And we also use these standards. There is the American heart Association, which is a public organization and offers a similar standard for the United States. We also train people can not deal with the state, most importantly, while observing the training standard.

In our country, unfortunately, learning first aid is not developed. Today it is business around the world, in addition to post-Soviet countries. Because we have people believe that they will always help the ambulance service. The way it should be, but there are situations where the ambulance is limited or delayed. For example, it was in the winter of this year was because of the snow drifts and people died, and gave birth right on the highway.

- In our country first aid are taught to have in schools, and driving courses. But how effective is this training?

- In schools and driver's courses emergency first aid formally read. The only exception is the personal attitude of the teacher to the subject, and only in this case, the quality takes precedence. That is, a formal review of the basics of first aid we always have and on paper all of them have studied and practically, unfortunately, no one knows anything and cannot apply. We try to fill this gap.
