How to give medicine to a child? When our children get sick, every pill is torture. What to do?


First rule: give the child medication as if casually, as if you do not suspect that he may refuse to accept it. Uncertain view or a detailed explanation can cause, he will understand that there is a possibility of failure to take medication. Insoluble tablets can be crushed and mixed with delicious food, for example, with fruit puree. This entire portion put in one teaspoon of mashed potatoes, because the second baby may refuse. Bitter pills can be mixed with sugar water, honey, syrup or jam. Mixing medications with drinks, it is better to use such that the child drinks rarely. If you will give a strange taste of milk or juice, baby may still have a few months to treat them with suspicion.




Such medication is only possible with kids, older kids, the approach should be different.




Well, if the child will be present when prescribing: feeling a sense of ownership to what is happening, he is more willing to follow the advice of a doctor. Even better, if a child will be interviewed by a doctor, who will be able to ask him questions.

If medications nasty taste, honestly warn about this little patient. Show him how to swallow a pill. If the tablet is large, ask your doctor if it can be divided into several parts. In any case, do not put the pill in food secret: the child will understand that he is trying to deceive and may no longer trust you.


Turn the procedure for the adoption of tablets in the ritual or make it a part of the game. For example, let the tablet first Teddy bear, and then the child. Or let the box of tablets will bring a toy truck, whose driver beeped and call baby, come along to see what you brought. You can also use the bell, indicating that the time was ripe tablets. And if the child swallows the pill, the bell can be repeated two or three times.


From about the age of five, children begin to understand that the discomfort caused by the disease can be cured in time taking the medication. And the kid taking the tablets can be explained in an accessible form, having beaten her in the role-playing game.
