Marijuana, cocaine and testicular cancer
American University conducted a study, the results of which will be the subject of debate, writes Antonio Michienzi in an article published in the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
"Smoking marijuana two times increases the likelihood of developing testicular cancer, while the use of cocaine twice it reduces. This is the result of American studies, which, no doubt, will give rise to a wide debate" - says the publication.
"Scientists from the University of Los Angeles trying to learn more about testicular cancer, which is diagnosed more and more often, the article says. - Were interviewed 163 men suffering from this disease, about the abuse of drugs. But it is an insufficient sample to draw conclusions, taking into account the fact that testicular cancer is a disease rare: he annually affects one person out of 100 thousand, generally ages 15 to 40 years. The data obtained were compared with the responses of 300 healthy men with the same ethno-demographic characteristics".
"The link between testicular cancer and marijuana use is not news, writes the correspondent. The results of various studies indicate that the risk of disease increases in proportion to the amount and duration of the use of this drug. Absolute news was that cocaine can protect against this type of cancer. In any case, one thing is clear: no one will offer to use cocaine for the prevention of testicular cancer," concludes the author.
