Self-knowledge: why do we need it?

Self-knowledge: why do we need it? In ancient times the temple of Apollo at Delphi were inscribed the words: "Know thyself." It was thought that saying it was transferred from the ancient Greek God Zeus and his son Apollo, who, according to mythology, and founded this temple. And the Oracle of Delphi temple in turn did the truth sent from the gods to the people. The philosopher Socrates after visiting the Delphic temple took this saying the Foundation of their philosophy. He turned to the study of man's place in the world, carrying him, in the words of Cicero, from heaven to earth.

Many years have passed since then. However, the relationship of man to his place in the world today is far from the Socratic. Few people at all times were willing to accept the fact that they do their own lives.

Why is hard to take the man to the full measure of responsibility for themselves, to appeal primarily to himself? The roots of such a universal dislike for the notion of responsibility is extensive and go deep into human history. Imposed principles, the formation of religious dogmas as fundamental in people's lives was to postulate: look for enemies outside itself. Trust in the mercy of higher powers, seek not to change anything in my life. For everything there is a Providence, from you a little that depends. Rock, fate, destiny - derivatives this interpretation of human existence. Of course, to argue about whether it's right or not and what is the truth in the last instance, is controversial. As it is impossible to give definitive evidence confirming their truth or falsity.

But! It is easier to compare the results, which gives a person a different approach to the determination itself in this world. If this approach makes a person happy, and his life is a complete and full, the approach or principle can be considered wealthy. If not, then the approach probably has a right to exist, unless the person does not want to suffer all life and accept this suffering as a natural given. So you can compare: what gives a person the position of the abdication of responsibility for one's own life and position of a full acceptance. In other words, where the gaze inward man, in his essence, or around it.

To be or not to be?

The man who relies entirely on Providence and lives by the principle "not are we living it" perceives what is happening in his life events as an accident. Bad luck, troubles at work, communicating with others, personal life - all charge on the unfortunate current circumstances and bad luck. Aimed in his direction negative perceives as injustice and feels powerless to change anything for the better.

In General, this approach is different can be called the position of the victim. Victims who are accustomed to cry, to complain and to seek enemies around him. For her the world is full of dangers and enemies, any mismatch personal plans life circumstances are the machinations of fate, injustice, and the notorious law of meanness. Such is the bleak picture that emerged in the head since birth. All the result of overall relative error of man's place in the world.

On the contrary, sometimes there are those who at least partially accepts the postulate about responsibility and personal choice for their own lives. And ready to look at the world as a reflection of the personal inner world, their views on him and the people in it. Although, of course, the first category is dominant. That is not surprising, since we are all products of society, which, in turn, evolved in a similar direction for many centuries. Consequently among the people is so common position of the victim and sacrifice.

Remove the masks

Why does one need to know myself? First of all, it will help to accept responsibility for their own lives. With the position of the responsible person it is easier to consider life as a consequence of the thoughts laid childhood programs, facilities and dogmas. Life as a reflection of what people inside himself ready to receive from it what he internally configured, relative to what is biased and what reactions programmed.

The usefulness and viability of this approach is confirmed by practice. And he who, overcoming their own resistance, able to take responsibility for his life, sees reality not threats and barriers and new opportunities, himself the Creator of his own life.

Repeat the ancient Greek aphorism "Know thyself". Take off the mask of the victim. And as soon as this first step is assigned to its own shoulders the responsibility for your life, will dissolve into nothingness sacrifice. No one except the man himself, does not determine the quality of his life. The secret of existence is hidden in himself. In his thoughts, prejudices, attitudes, etc., All this in an amazing way creates filters of perception, through which we see the world the way already prepared in advance to see it.

As soon as taking responsibility, understanding that the world is a reflection of your inner self, and begin, respectively, to change yourself and your attitude to the world, changing reality itself.

In this new reality, there is no room for drama and frustration, accusations and the notorious "witch hunt". Returning to the dictum of Socrates, we can say: if you want to deal with their own life, looking for reasons why it happened, what happened, you know yourself. And you will find exactly what determines your reality. And then we can decide what to do next to bring life to a qualitatively new level.
