Review by reader:
The book draws from the very beginning. And this despite the fact that the intrigue occurs only page on the 10th. However, not even the intrigue, and the first tense situation: the attempted rape in a hotel room, where he organized a party Golden youth...
What book? About the life of new Orleans at St Gregory. It's not a story, not a love story, not a disaster movie... Arthur Hailey generally referred to as the author's production of novels (the names of his other works: the Airport, the Detective, the Evening news, money Changers and others), and is called, in my opinion, rightly. Don't get confused by the word production. The hotel is constantly something going on, from the broken dinner for 2000 persons for robbery and murder, from the malfunction of the Elevator to struggle graduate education of young blacks for the abolition of segregation.
The main character in the Hotel difficult to distinguish, though, perhaps, they may be named hotel Manager Peter McDermott. Life line actors novel intersect at Saint Gregory, though often they see each other only a couple of moments. The hotel has its own life, visitors own. The author also pays equal attention to both, showing the extent possible, the essence of the production process within one hotel (it may sound dry, but actually the text of the novel is very, very tasty).
So: the book is somewhere on the line between serious and popular literature, therefore, may be of interest for many people. I will say more: I don't know who "Hotel" may not like. The ability to look simultaneously from the inside (by staff) and externally (through the eyes of guests) to life at large is worth a lot. This practical book. Such, in my opinion, and should be a real American literature (and not a story about two gay cowboys, God forgive me). My friendly advice.
