Halloween and Samhain

Halloween and SamhainIn recent years, and our lives became Halloween, which is celebrated on the eve of all saints Day. This is a very old holiday, it is about two thousand years. It is closely intertwined traditions of the Celts and Christians worship evil spirits and the worship of saints.

Once on the territory of modern Europe, the UK and France, lived the Celts. The Celts as these pagans worshipped the pagan Sun God named Meadow. In Celtic legends on all winter Meadow becomes a prisoner of the Lord of the dead, the Prince of darkness Samhain. The feast of Samhain falls on the last day of October and marks the changing of the seasons, day night, life - death. This is the only night when all the barriers between the real and spirit world disappear, and opens a portal between the worlds. It was believed that all evil in this holiday is for people. The souls of the dead down to the family, could take various forms. The most evil and dangerous souls dwell in cats.

In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV established a new holiday - all saints Day which is celebrated on the first day of November. This was done in hopes to distract the inhabitants of England from pagan customs. To overcome old habits failed.

Halloween has become of great importance in this time goodbye to all the bad, old and met a new one. The pagan gods were given the gift of autumn fruits and vegetables, flowers. Instead of asking for help. At night in the Samhain tradition was to put on the street a container of fruits, which were intended for the shower, walking on the earth. It was a kind of payment for any assistance from dead souls. On this day, the poor went from house to house rich and begged food and drink, promising to pray for their deceased relatives.

Today's children on this day, dress up in costumes and go from house to house, demanding sweets. It became a tradition to carve a pumpkin lantern Jack. In Ireland and Scotland as a lantern with a candle used turnips, potatoes and Swede.

Costumes for Halloween, role playing costumes and much more can be purchased on the website bumbio.ru.

An old legend says that once a man named Jack agreed to sell his soul to the devil. The devil turned into a coin, which has paid off with Jack. Coin man put it in his pocket, and in it to trouble the devil lay a silver cross, which prevented the devil to take his usual appearance. In the trades, Jack received from the impure forces the promise that his soul will never take to hell. But here's the problem - in heaven the soul of the sinner Jack did not take. In the hell wouldn't the devil, fulfilling the promise, but gave Jack a hell of ember to light the way, wandering, waiting the judgment day. Jack carved from a turnip lantern and put in place the ember. He still wanders somewhere on earth, as a symbol of a damned soul.
