Sleep deprivation can be fatal

Sleep deprivation can be fatalChronic lack of sleep not only leads to reduced mental concentration and depression, but also increases the risk of heart disease and death.

A recent US study, which involved 39 volunteers, showed that the lack of sleep during the whole five nights may expose the heart of significant stress.

Scientists from the medical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania twice investigated cardiac function of the participants of the experiment in the beginning of the study and after a night full ten hours of sleep. Then the same tests were conducted after five nights, during which study participants slept an average of four hours.

In the electrocardiogram showed that after five nights of insufficient sleep all volunteers were observed rapid pulse and a much smaller variability of heart rate.
