So by the most stringent rules, during lent, you cannot use:
- meat and meat products;
products containing milk and milk products, including milk powder;
all products containing eggs;
- fish (except for some days);
- vegetable oil (except for some days);
- alcohol (except wine on some days).
But even during the most severe post some exceptions: oil and wine can be drunk on Saturdays and Sundays (except Saturday in Holy week). Vegetable oil is allowed to eat in the days of memory of the most revered saints. You can also cook fish dishes during the holidays - the Annunciation (April 7) and the Entry of Christ into Jerusalem (the last Sunday before Easter). Fish ROE is allowed to eat on Lazarus Saturday (the day before palm Sunday). As an exception can be varied menu of seafood: squid, mussels and prawns. Note that in lent is especially important timely usage of the first and second dishes hot.
Foods that can be eaten during lent:
- homework: pickles and fermented, pickled vegetables and berries, juices and jams;
- frozen and fresh vegetables, fruits and mushrooms, and nuts, legumes, seeds, dried fruits;
- herbs and spices of all kinds: they are able to spice up any dish;
- vegetable products: soy mayonnaise, soy yogurt, soy milk, soy cheese, and cheese, as well as special Lenten sweets (which not so long ago appeared on the shelves of supermarkets);
- cereals, bread and bakery products that do not contain muffin.
At the same time, earlier it was considered a great sin to eat during lent the white flour products. It might make sense to replace it with whole grain, because it is much more useful.

First week: February 27-March 4
