In a strange monastery

In a strange monasterySo, hurrah! It happened! Even in our difficult time you have managed to find a new job! Tomorrow is the first day... the paperwork, familiarity with the functionality and colleagues... Worried? Of course, Yes. Because what lies ahead is unknown.

How to successfully pass the adaptation

So many things will need to get used to the workplace, to new responsibilities to colleagues. In short - you will have what is called adaptation. And then we'll talk, and we'll get only the adaptation of the new employee to its working group (the constant circle of colleagues with whom you will work together).

There is a common myth that people only came out to work in a new place, goes a long way habituation to the company as a whole. This is only true for very small enterprises. Actually everything is both simpler and more complicated. In any a little bit larger firm newbie accustomed to its working group (company and individual objects too different scales, so you can talk about establishing between them at least some relations, including mutual adaptation to each other). So you will have to get used to his team. And you have to get used to? Maybe it's not important?

Yes, of course, the first formal requirement for any employee is the best performance of his official duties. But... you See, in any company are the people. And in addition to directly working moments there are many, so to say, moments outside. That team, where you are, has its own set of likes-dislikes, and their own rules. The main thing is your new work team is from the point of view of psychology group. And any group strives to maintain its existence, and if you are a threat to this existence - believe me, in this group you very soon will not be...

How to stay in a new place

To stay at their new location (while you're on probation, you can on the initiative of the fire for three days - don't forget about this), you need what? It is ideal to perform their duties? Believe me, the first time you do this, one doesn't expect. Yes it is technically impossible - even if you have years of experience, there are always nuances that you did not work.

But establishing good relations with colleagues expect from you, and even very. Nobody likes people who "rock the boat". Don't believe? Conduct a thought experiment: who has a better chance to stay in the firm - excellent employee, which will still be wrong, or the person who has established good relationships with co-workers? If it was his only performance is, perhaps, the chances would be equal. But keep in mind that the boss, who decides to leave you or not, ask your colleagues how you brand new? And if - no matter how many mistakes you have made - strong chorus of voices in your defence will be loud enough, you can be sure that you will always help...

How to join the new team

Therefore the first task in a new place - "infusion" in the new team and the establishment of good relations.

Each group will have a border. There's a line formal membership - you crossed when you are officially entered in the number of staff working in this unit. And there are informal border. And only those who are "for it", are accepted in the group and, accordingly, have the opportunity to influence her life.

Remember: everyone who worked to you, has a lot more influence in the company than you. Even if you are super-duper expert... And that your colleagues will be let to do this and not organized a special meeting to decide whether you generally stay close to them. Informal cross border those who have established clear (not always, note that good - only a hundred dollar bill all like it... and even then, maybe not all) personal relationships with all members of the group... Until such a relationship is not, you will be a formal member. What this entails will remember their school years: almost every class was a child who was flying all sorts of sins against school mode? Something...

Every group has its own unwritten rules that may coincide with those that are officially declared by the leadership of your company (probably from the first day you will drive them to the brain), and may not be the same. Remember that group norms is always stronger than the official rules. If you choose "not to work is better than Bob" (how would such a rule may appear) is not worth it to break. Understand the existing balance of all psychological and workflow in the team (and the group seeks this balance save) depends on the performance of group norms. It does not matter why Bob should be the best, but you should not try to alter the rules... do not forgive...

Identification and separation of external regulations and internal standards - the process is subtle, but necessary. Treat him carefully.

In each group there are people who take responsibility that this process is "normal". Such people are called leaders. And their opinions - even if they do not have any formal authority is fundamental to the working group members. And there are those who prefer not to answer, but for that subject leaders, led. Immediately the leaders misses no one. Initially any newcomer enters the group with the existing distribution of leaders and followers. Any attempt to stand out too will be blocked by the current leaders. But when you understand the existing structure of relations in your workplace, no one is stopping you to compete for leadership.

On a separate note for those who come to a managerial position. In order to have a real influence on what is happening, you not only have to be appointed by the leader, and recognized your co-workers leader. And since, while you are not there, someone ran the life of your group, you will still have to compete for leadership. Of course everything will not work. And for this you will need to become informal member that is set with colleagues a clear personal relationships.
