In the book, Like a Virgin (Like a virgin") biologist of Aarathi Prasad examines the historical representation of the immaculate conception and explores the possibility that future pregnancies will be optional, writes New Scientist.
Prasad believes that in the future it will be possible to ectogenic the maturation of the fetus in an artificial womb. It describes experiments on animals using artificial womb and attempts to create artificial human placenta.
"Prasad also argues that such an outcome would be preferable to a natural birth - not because it is the best alternative to women, but because it is the best alternative for them. Pregnancy is still a risk and even life-threatening, and the problem of infertility increases. While this alternative would seem to be very attractive," writes the article's author Sally ADI.
