Superstition still bring good luck.

Superstition still bring good luck.Superstitious ways of attracting good luck found in cultures around the world, and it turns out that their widespread prevalence suggests that they, to some extent, act. New research shows that faith, for example, due to luck may actually in some situations lead to a good result.

In a series of experiments, a team of psychologists at the University of Cologne worked with the tasks arising from the use of memory and motor skills. In the experiments, participated by College students who have studied the connection between behavior and object of superstition" (they relied on luck).

In the first experiment, participants played Golf. However, those students who experimenters said that the ball happy, the game has been much better. In another experiment, each student was given a cube with holes, which contained small balls. The aim was for a short period of time as much as possible balls to put in the holes. Again, participants who experimenters said that will keep them fists could do it better.

In the last two experiments "participated" talismans that each of the students brought with them. Those who allowed them to take on memory tests and test on anagrams, better coped with the task.

In order to understand whether superstition provide students with force, before the last two experiments, the experts interviewed them in order to measure the level of self-confidence. Participants who were allowed to keep their own mascots, set higher goals and talked about the fact that they feel very confident.

"So, superstitious thoughts and behaviors can be one way to achieve maximum performance," write the researchers. People often become superstitious when faced with unknown stressful situations, perhaps, as the researchers say, this partly explains why athletes and students are often superstitious. Superstitions help them cope with the stress associated with the exam or high-stakes competitions. The study showed that superstition can also increase a person's faith in their own abilities and talents.

"Superstitious behavior will not help you win the lottery, however it can help you pass the test or winning a sporting event," says psychologist and study co-author Barbara Staberock (Barbara Stoberock).

And although winning a weak team might seem like a Fluke, actually this may be the result of superstition caused by confidence. In the future, the researchers plan to study negative superstitions, for example, they want to find information confirming or denying that a black cat on the road can bring misfortune.
