Christmas can be celebrated four times

Christmas can be celebrated four timesThe attempt at foundations

Occasionally even the Church hierarchy contribute to the confusion in the minds of believers. The last in this sense, the distinguished Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. Speaking on a Bi-bi-si (air force) he called the events associated with the emergence of the infant Jesus in the light, no more than a legend.

Dr. Rowan Williams - the authority and in the UK, and in the world. He is the leader of the Anglican Church. And it is not clear why he needed to encroach on the foundations.

The Catholic people have somehow got used to celebrate Christmas on December 25. We are Orthodox celebrate on January 7, old style.

In the West, arrange lovely views with the participation of the virgin Mary, baby Jesus and the wise men-the Magi, who brought gifts to him. Do composition, complementing them with figures of animals, a manger. We carry out the ceremony of worship. Jesus, the Bible, was born in a barn. As it is written in the gospel of Luke, Mary, being pregnant, came to the city of Bethlehem. "And she brought forth Her firstborn Son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the Inn".

The Archbishop of Canterbury declared, that "proof of the existence of the Magi, there are practically no". Not the fact that they came together. According to him, the only mention of the wise men from the East found in the gospel of Matthew. Yes and there description is very vague.

In the gospel of Matthew tells us, " explained Dr. Williams, that they were astrologers, wise men, priests from outside the Roman Empire, that's all. This is very similar to the legend.

In fact, the Archbishop even pravachol. Matthew knows only this: "...they came to Jerusalem the Magi (wise men) from the East". But for many centuries, this is no reason to doubt it.

According to British newspaper The Telegraph, Williams dispelled and other details of the Christmas story, adding that perhaps in the barn was not donkeys and oxen. And popular postcards with images of the virgin Mary, rocking the baby Jesus surrounded by shepherds and wise men, false.

And in the end Dr. Williams said that perhaps Jesus was born not in December. In other words, people celebrate this event at the wrong time.

So decided Dionysius Small

Archbishop probably tested the strength of the faith of his flock. And maybe had no idea that his revelation to rekindle a long-standing disputes. About the true time of the birth of Jesus. In the Bible-the date is not given, there are some hints.

Cherished number and year started to look in the first century of our era. Ancient scientists, producing a complex calculation, got very different results from 8 years before our era, up to 6 years of our (new calendar). In the end, all arranged date - 1 year A.D. It was appointed one of the papal archivists Dionysius Small in 525 year.

Explanations of the day - December 25 - gave in his St. John Chrysostom. Supposedly, you can determine that John the Baptist was conceived on September 23. At the sixth month after this happened the Annunciation of the virgin Mary of the immaculate conception. Which, in turn, happened on March 25. And nine months later on December 25, Jesus Christ was born.

However, some historians claim that the case was otherwise. And argue that only in the year 354 appears the first mention of the celebration of Christmas on 25 December, the day of the winter solstice, when the light "turns" from winter to summer. And there is a hypothesis that the holiday was introduced by the Church in order to displace attributable to the same time the pagan celebrations of the birth of the invincible Sun God.

In the yard too 2023

And yet hints at the date of the birth of Christ, of the Bible, do not give rest to modern scientists. From sacred texts known: "In those days he went out from Caesar Augustus commanded to make a census of all the earth. This census was the first in the reign of Quirinius of Syria (Luke). Actually, for the sake of registration and Mary went to Bethlehem where she gave birth! Matthew confirms that " ...Jesus was born in Bethlehem". And adds: "...in the days of Herod the king...".

Dozens of experts have analyzed all possible sources - who-where-when rules and rewrote. However, using only information about historical figures, to converge on any one date failed. Went scatter from 12 BC to 4 years.

Then it took astronomers. The Magi had been told that "seen His star in the East...". "And behold, the star went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was" (Matthew). This is the famous "guiding star", she is Bethlehem, the symbol which now decorates the Christmas tree.

It can be assumed that the Magi watched some real astronomical event. The role of "stars" after a long dispute the scientific world took away the comet Halley.

By the way, in the form of the comet depicted the "star of Bethlehem" by the Italian artist Giotto in 1301 at his picture on the birth of baby Jesus.

Experts found more reliable sources - for example, monitoring the ancient Chinese astronomer MA Tuan Lin. Of them followed: Halley's comet first appeared on August 26, 12 years before our era. It turns out that Christmas should move.

The correct month is September

It was visible in the morning in the constellation Gemini. And moved to the border of the constellations of Leo and Virgo. On the 13th day of the comet could be seen in the evenings. Then she rounded the milky Way and went South. Was visible, in the end, 63 days. But not until December.

The Magi, presumably, went to the Kingdom of Judah from the Nabateans. And moved all the time to the West. "Star", it is the same comet that was like before them - from North to South. It is not clear, however, how did the illusion that she stopped. But it happened in Bethlehem of Galilee. There the Magi and found probably the only family in which there was a newborn. It was Jesus.

Modern calculations it follows that in the constellation of Leo the comet came in early September and went to the star Regulus - "the little king". Then, according to scientists, magicians and noticed her in the wee hours on the Eastern side of the sky. And since Leo was associated with the names of Judah and his "tribe", the appearance here of a new star, but still near Regular, could be viewed as a sign of the birth of the new "king of the Jews".

However, on 7 September, the comet came out of the constellation Leo. Therefore, concluded the experts, Jesus had to be born sometime between the first of September 7-E.

It seems that the Archbishop believes it is in it. But it is unlikely that the rest of the world ready to join. However, maybe the time will come when we buoy to celebrate Christmas in September - in a scientific way. Or four times - new and old style.
