Probation period: from bell to bell

Probation period: from bell to bellClear temporary restriction of the probationary period, a clear concern for the rights of the employee. In the domestic Labour code and it says: "If the probationary period has expired, and the employee continues to work, he is considered to have passed the test and the subsequent termination of the employment contract can only be on a common basis".

Pravda in Ukraine, where the work book often lie at home in the Cabinet than in the safe of the employer, the probationary period is to labor very indirect relationship. In any case, officially or not, but the probationary period set all employers.

Dismissal on the grounds of "not passed the probationary period" - the phenomenon is not rare. According to unofficial statistics of large Western companies, the probationary period does not pass every fifth rookie, regardless of their position.

What tasks does not handle new employees?

Task 1: get accustomed to colleagues

If the company does not have its own microclimate - the company of robots. Roles there are in any group, it is important to understand how they are painted. New man for the old - timers always a dark horse. Suddenly he will be a talented and energetic? And suddenly he did not "our people"? Or someone's relative?

not much to be imposed colleagues. It is better to wait until you are invited to the informal communication: at lunch or on break. Usually the first step to meet the newcomer does the leader of the team. So, without putting much effort, you will begin to understand the balance of power in the new workplace. The same applies to business issues: ask questions and seek clarification it is necessary, however, it is not necessary to "catch the tail" to sympathetic colleagues.

- not to participate in coalitions. Until you understand the balance of forces, it is not necessary to join as a group to support any associations - whether internal conflict, friendship against someone or provocation, like: "Sign here and you this letter of protest". Would be cheaper to pretend to be a broom.

- not waving their beliefs. Theoretically, one of the objectives of the employer is recruiting with similar social status, similar interests, and so on, for example, the owner of one edition has been configured to employ non-Smoking women with children.

Such "chauvinism" has its advantages: the staff will not be lost on the breaks, will likely, Executive and will find something to discuss between themselves. But in most companies for such things as common interests and social status, I do not. Therefore it is not necessary, at least initially, to show others their views and insignia - nationalism, vegetarianism, handbag from Gucci.

Task 2: Understand the corporate rules

The rules, as usual, can be regulated and unspoken. The first referred to as the "corporate culture" and can occur even in the most unexpected, but well-established things. In one company it may be a requirement to wear red aprons with the company logo on all meeting, the other to participate in the "Fun starts" every Saturday in the name of unity of command.

Ignore the tradition is strategically wrong.

It is therefore necessary in the first days to learn about the formal rules of corporate culture. Typically these include:

- schedule

- duration and lunchtime

- the number and duration of coffee breaks

- the time of the weekly and monthly meetings

office dress code

rules of registration of compensatory time off and sick leaves.

If the company has no official papers, which will be distributed to all newcomers, to find out corporate standards in the Department of personnel or supervisor. To comply with these rules (and therefore not to be late and properly dressed) during the probationary period must be especially careful. Why is mediocre and of little things to annoy others - surely there are more compelling reasons.

- if you need to show loyalty to the company. What else should these monsters? No, to the immortal soul it has not reached yet, the company wants from you one simple thing. For example, you work at a firm that produces jeans. All employees attend this production, thereby demonstrating: "We love these jeans, even knowing what threads they sew the Chinese". Meanwhile you for 5 years in a row, buy Diesel jeans, and life without them is not present.

Better addressed sooner than later: what you say is most important principles in clothing or, in fact, work. Choose principles - be prepared for the fact that others may not choose you. In the opinion of company management, such principles - the same thing to make a statement: "We are worse than competitors".

- try not to miss the "informal" events. The official corporate culture, there is also an informal party. About the unspoken "mezhdusoboychika" have to learn gradually and often for half an hour before the event. Because direct questions: "your company made to drink a bottle or two on Fridays? " irritate. It may, of course, and accepted, but you have no one to invite wasn't going to. However, when you call, it is better to agree. First, you will be aware of office gossip, secondly, does not pass for a lonely and, thirdly, will show respect to your superiors, if it is sponsoring it "team building".

Task 3: work the way you expect

Paradoxically, professional duties are not in the first place. To be a good specialist is important. However, for many employers is much more important than your personal adequacy. Profession, in the end, you can teach. Therefore, by fulfilling their duties during the probationary period, it is desirable:

- to prevent gross errors in the work. Typically, these problems arise from the fact that a beginner too confident or afraid to ask something. For example, the client delays the payment, and then it turns out that he has always sinned. A simple clarification from colleagues about his past, would help to avoid such errors.

- to work too well. It would seem that bad, if the employee exceeds all imaginable expectations? However, this is complicated by the fact that colleagues will be scared of competition and the chief of undermining their own professional reputation of the subordinates. These "upstart" often fail probation. Maybe it's for the best for them.

In addition, during the probationary period, it is important to remember that choosing not only you, but you decide suits you, your employer or not. First, it adds self-confidence, and secondly, it helps to appreciate, "adequate" if the company itself. If you think not, then according to the law during the trial period you have the right to notify the employer of his resignation in writing within three days.
