Pickpockets and robbers often specialize on unwary tourists. And none of us, even the most careful walking only in the light of the sun through the crowded streets, are not insured from any surprises. If the trouble still occurs, it is important not to lose your head and follow our instructions.
Step 1. Police
The first thing you need to do any in distress traveler to contact the police. Usually incidents with foreigners engaged in the tourist police, but there is no need to look for their office. Ask passers-by from your cell to call the emergency number - they certainly know his number!
Foreign police are not less Patriotic police are concerned about the performance and not always try to make a statement. So came the patrol is better to tell about the passport (good for many languages, this word sounds the same), then they will have to deal with your problem.
The police must obtain the Protocol and to provide information on the incident. Be prepared that there will not be a person who speaks English, and to speak will have signs
and the drawings. You do not have to sign in a language I do not understand, however in practice this is difficult to do, especially if the incident occurred during the holidays, when no one will think to look for a translator. Therefore, the decision to accept you: unless you sign will not help, without which you will not be able to go to the Consulate and, therefore, to return to Ukraine. However, with minimal knowledge of foreign languages to understand the meaning of the Protocol is easy.
Step 2. Lock
Need as soon as possible (preferably at the time, while waiting for the patrol to block all stolen plastic cards and phone: the money for roaming not immediately written off and, even if you have no credit tariff, literally for hours, the attacker will have time to talk with relatives from Zimbabwe, and will get robbed then the expense of tens of thousands of rubles.
Before leaving, remaining in Ukraine relative or good friend should leave the sheet with cell phone companies, all banks and credit card numbers. Then you don't have to spend money on international calls - it will be enough to make a call, send him an SMS from any phone or online. In the extreme case, to send a single message, you can even ask bystanders to the incident.
Step 3. Money
Then you should think about the bread. Of course, experienced travelers do not keep all your money and cards together. A certain amount and one "plastic" should always be kept separate in the hotel safe or, during flight, in the secret pocket. If the robbers were able to carry out all without any help.
Before the journey it makes sense to buy an insurance policy with the extension, providing not only medical expenses, but also, in the case of theft, the issuance of a certain amount for emergency expenses. If you do not want to pay for insurance for a few dollars more, will have to turn to family or friends. Fortunately, there are now Express money transfers that you can get without a passport, as a code word.
Step 4. Preparation of documents
Get help on the incident, the tourist need as soon as possible to contact the nearest branch of the Ukrainian Consulate, which should tell the police. But first, don't be lazy and go make a photocopy of help, because soon it may have to show quite often. Also photographed: at the Consulate it is better to go with two finished photos 3, 5x4, 5, which can be done in any photobooth in the underpass.
Step 5. Consulate
At the Consulate, you need to get help to return to that place instead of a passport when boarding the plane and on the border. But most airlines will allow you to fly only direct flight. If purchased tickets with stopovers will most likely have to buy new ones.
With a Consulate should bring pictures, help and lead two Ukrainian citizens, who do not yet lost their passports and are ready to attest to your identity. Until recently I still had to pay a fee (about 50 euros) for the issuance of a document. Now it's been cancelled, but be prepared that you will have to pay 15 euros for certifying each of the signatures of the witnesses.
Much easier instead of two people to show his Ukrainian passport or notarized copy (page with personal data and registration), which also should not just be sure to carry and to store them separately. The second copy, just in case, should lie at home. Too difficult? Believe me, it's worth it! If the passport was stolen along with foreign, up, and the journey is made alone, the Consulate will be forced to make a request in Ukraine, which will take several days. Where is all this time people will live and what money is his own business.
Of course, the Consulate does not always open, it is closed on weekends and holidays. At the very least you can try to call the door of the Embassy and explain the situation - sometimes officials are going to meet. But you need to be prepared for the fact that you have to spend in town a few extra days. However, the passport in Europe requires not so often, but because if you have the money and the mood, you can continue the journey across the country, if necessary, presenting a certificate from the police. Not only to cross the border - back tourist can simply not be let in, and the Consulate will accept help only from the local police.
