June 6, Henry Seeley has patented an electric iron

Birthday electric iron can be considered on 6 June 1882. On this day the American Henry Seeley patented his invention of the electric iron.


The first irons in many respects exceeded their cast iron predecessors. In them the heating element was an electric arc, which is located between the carbon electrodes, which were summed DC.




Early models of electric irons were unsafe, because of imperfections in design, they strongly hit by the shock. But 10 years later in 1892 the company "General Electric" and "Crompton & Co;" upgraded electric iron by using in its construction the heating coil.




In 1920, the first irons with thermostatic control. Depending on the type of tissue from the three proposed - wool, linen, silk, iron was heated to the desired temperature.




In the second half of the 20th century, the first irons with a steaming function. Further evolution indispensable home appliance went by leaps and bounds.
